 Greetings:

I hope all is well with your families! The school year is off to a great start and things are just as busy as they can be here at Crestview. We are very pleased to announce that Crestview has two new certificated tutors. Mrs. Molly Machin, will be helping in the Kindergarten classrooms. Mrs. Janice Burch will be serving in three different roles as 6th Grade PE Tutor, Intervention Specialist and also helping in Kindergarten. We are very fortunate to have these two ladies on the Crestview Team.

The PTA has been very busy organizing events and planning the budget for the school year. Let me urge everyone to please join the PTA and please be active in your students’ education. We are always looking for volunteers to help in many ways here at Crestview. Nothing is more important than your children!

We have begun an exciting new intervention program for Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Students. Over the past week we have given a reading assessment to every student in these grade levels. The data that we have derived from this assessment along with teacher assessments will help us determine which students require intervention to help bring them to grade level in the area of reading. We are expecting big results from this new intervention program.

We encourage you to please check the school calendar often as events are listed on this valuable tool that keeps us all informed of all of the many happenings here at Crestview.  One of our first major events is Back to School Night which is on Wednesday September 8th. Please note that this year the PTA general Meeting in sandwiched in-between the two classroom presentation sessions.  This is a change from how we have done this night in the past. Also, we ask that if kids are brought to Back to School Night that they stay close to you under your supervision. The playground will be closed at Back to School Night as there is not supervision and we want the kids to be safe.  We look forward to seeing all of you at this super event!

In closing, thank you for your continued support and service. Have a great holiday weekend!

Dr. Ken Faulk

Labor Day Holiday:  School will not be in session on Monday, September 6th in observance of Labor Day.

School Site Council: Crestview’s school site council has openings. The council needs 3 members to serve a two year term and 1 alternate to serve for a one year term. If you would like to serve on Crestview’s School Site Council, please call the office and place your name on the ballot.  Elections will be held on September 8 at Back To School Night.

Cougarwear: Orders for t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and other cougarwear will be beginning on September 7, with the deadline for ordering being September 21.  Cougarwear can be worn as part of the school uniform.

Back To School Night: We are looking forward to seeing all of you on September 8, 2010. There will be two sessions for you to visit your child’s classroom; the first starting at 6:00-6:40 and the second session starting at 7:20-8:00.  There will be a PTA meeting from 6:45-7:15 in the MPR.  At this meeting, there will be an election for School Site Council members.

Sub Noon Duty Aides: We are in need of Substitute Noon-duty Aides at Crestview Elementary.  Substitutes fill in for absent Noon-duty Aides.  They work two hours and fifteen minutes per day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.  Noon-duty aides supervise students during lunch in the Multipurpose Room and outside on the playground.  The hours fall within the three lunch periods between 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  When a regular opening occurs, we consider our substitute Noon-duty Aides for the position.  The application process will include fingerprinting and a current TB test through the district Office in Lompoc.  If you are interested, please contact the school office at 742-2050.

Lost and Found: Please check the lost and found for any articles of clothing, lunch boxes, etc… that your student may have lost.

School Pictures: Fall pictures will be on Monday, September 13th.  This is a free dress day, uniforms are not mandatory.

Parent Volunteers:  Please join us for a very important meeting on September 17, 2010 in room H1/H5.  All parent volunteers are highly encouraged to attend.

Inter-District Boundary Agreements:  It is mandatory for all students who reside outside the Lompoc School District, in Santa Maria, Orcutt, or other communities to obtain an Inter-District Boundary Agreement annually from their home school district.

If you live in the Santa Maria district you can contact Mr. Grogan – 708 S. Miller –PH (805) 928-1783. For the Orcutt District please contact the Orcutt Unified School district-500 Dyer St.  PH (805) 938-8900.  Please bring the completed form to the Crestview office as soon as possible.

School of Choice:  If you live off base in Lompoc, you must have on file an approved school of choice application.  This approval will follow your student all the time he/she is attending Crestview.  It only needs to be submitted once.  If you have moved off base please see the office staff for an application.

Nurse’s Office Needs:  We are desperately in need of underwear.  Girl  sizes, 4, 5 and 6; boys 5 and 6.  If you could make a donation of new underwear in these sizes, it would be greatly appreciated.

Now that school is back in session, let this serve as a reminder to parents of returning students and those parents of newly assigned students of the traffic flow plan at Crestview Elementary School.  This traffic flow plan was designed to reduce traffic congestion during peak drop off and pick up times.  The following changes were implemented on 31 Mar 08:

These changes ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff.  This traffic flow plan expedites heavy traffic during these peak periods.  In addition, Security Forces will issue citations if vehicles are parked in NO Parking zones or disrupt the one-way traffic flow.  Thank you for your cooperation.
