Greetings!
I hope all is well with your families. This week we had a great Science Fair and Open House at Crestview. The science projects were outstanding and the kids are all very proud of their hard work. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated teaching staff that encourages excellence from our kids. Thank you for attending the Crestview Open House and Science Fair.
We are very happy to report that the Lompoc Unified School District Board of Education voted to keep 3rd grade class size reduction. This means that 3rd grade next year will be at a ratio of one teacher to twenty students. This is great news for our students.
The construction continues in the rear of the school as we get ready for the new classrooms that will arrive this summer. We are very excited to have all of the Los Padres students and teachers on the Crestview campus next school year.
Operation Cougar Swap is up and running thanks to our PTA who are always working hard for Crestview. If you would like to turn in your old serviceable uniforms there is a container in the front of the school for your old uniforms. Thank you PTA for all you do!
Special thanks to Mrs. Saltzman for all of her hard work on the Crestview Yearbook. She has created a masterpiece that our students will enjoy for many years to come. There are about 30 extra yearbooks that are for sale for $15 (check payable to Crestview PTA or exact cash.)
There are many garments on the lost and found clothes rack in front of the multipurpose room. Please feel free to check the clothes rack to see if any of the lost garments belong to your student. At the end of the school year we donate the unclaimed items to the Vandenberg Thrift Shop.
Starting with the 2008-09 school year we will be offering a breakfast program at Crestview. We are happy to offer this service for our students.
Collaboration reminder. Beginning next school year we will have a minimum day every Wednesday. The teachers voted unanimously to extend the school day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, banking extra minutes so they may engage in professional collaboration every Wednesday afternoon. The students will still receive the same number of instructional minutes as they have in the past. We have been in touch with the VAFB Youth Center and they feel very confident that they can support the Crestview families who will need childcare on Wednesday afternoons.
On Saturday, May 31st, there will be a report from the board on the budget. This informational meeting will be held from 9-10:30 am in the LUSD Board Room.
In closing, thank you for all of your support. We appreciate all of your hard work and sacrifices that help keep us free. We feel privileged to serve you.
Have a great weekend!
Dr. Ken Faulk
LUNCH ACCOUNTS: As we near the end of the school year, we need to clear all the lunch account charges. If you need to know your child’s lunch balance, please call the office. Credits at the end of the year will roll over to the new year unless you submit a refund request (available in the office.)
FALL REGISTRATION: All students who live outside the Lompoc Unified School District and attend Crestview must apply for an Inter-District Boundary Agreement every year. If your out-of-district student will be attending Crestview next year, apply at your home district office now for next year. If your student is attending Crestview on School of Choice (lives within LUSD boundaries), you do not need to reapply.
END OF THE YEAR: The last day of school for this year is Thursday, June 5th. By this time of the year we are starting to look forward to a nice summer vacation. However, we still want to be diligent in our efforts to keep our children in school. If, for any reason, your child will not be at school, it is important for you to contact the office.
Last call for EduKit school supply kits! Don’t miss out on this easy & convenient kit to make your back-to-school shopping the best ever! No more crowds to fight or store hopping. Last day to return forms or shop online is Friday May 30th. Extra order forms are located in the school office!
COUGAR SWAP: Donate, swap or purchase used uniforms at the Crestview Cougar Swap! A bin is located outside the school office. Questions? Contact Marla Dutkus at 734-0564. This program is a give-back from your PTA.
